About
Paul Flanders is a Finnish-American designer based in Helsinki whose practice begins with an interest in what materials remember. Working primarily with wood, he explores its material biography—the traces of landscape, labour, technique and culture that accumulate through making and use.
His furniture and objects carry memory, meaning and cultural reference, often embedding these associations within restrained and quietly idiosyncratic forms. His approach is informed by two places and traditions of making: rural Texas, where he grew up, and Finland, his adopted home. Moving between functional furniture, collectible objects and experimental research, Flanders works with private clients, galleries and museums.
He is a founder of Minestrone Workshop.
